Privacy Policy
For the Marshallese Translator extension for Google Chrome. Effective October 16, 2026.
In short
- The extension has no server and no accounts, and it collects no data for itself.
- When you choose “Translate to Marshallese,” the text you selected is sent to Google Translate so it can be translated.
- The only thing the extension stores is the ID of its translation tab, and it is deleted when you close Chrome.
What the extension does
Marshallese Translator adds one item to Chrome’s right-click menu. When you select English text on a web page and choose that item, the extension opens Google Translate (translate.google.com) in a browser tab with your selected text filled in, set to translate from English to Marshallese.
Information the extension handles
Text you select. When, and only when, you choose the menu item, the extension reads the text you selected on that page. It places that text in the Google Translate web address and opens it. The extension does not save the text, keep a copy of it, or send it anywhere other than Google Translate.
The translation tab’s ID. To reuse one tab for translations instead of opening a new tab each time, the extension remembers that tab’s ID number in Chrome’s session storage. This number identifies a browser tab, not a person. Chrome deletes it when the browser closes.
Information the extension does not collect
- No names, email addresses, account details or other personal information.
- No passwords. The extension deliberately ignores password fields.
- No browsing history, and no record of the pages you visit or the text you translate.
- No clicks, keystrokes, location or device information.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
The extension does not run on web pages in the background. Its code touches a page only at the moment you choose the menu item, and only on that page.
Google Translate
Translation is done by Google Translate, a service run by Google. The text you choose to translate is sent to Google as part of the translate.google.com web address, and Google handles it under the Google Privacy Policy. This extension is not made by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Google.
Browser history and sync
Because the selected text is part of the Google Translate web address, it is saved in Chrome’s browser history like any other page you open. If Chrome sync is turned on, that history may also be saved to your Google Account. You can delete it at any time from Chrome’s history page.
Use in schools
This extension was made to help a student whose first language is Marshallese read English course material. We recommend using it only for instructional material, and not for student names, grades, personal messages or other private information, because the selected text is sent to Google and saved in browser history as described above.
Permissions
- Context menus: adds the “Translate to Marshallese” item to the right-click menu.
- Active tab and scripting: read the text you selected, only on the page where you chose the menu item, so paragraph breaks are kept.
- Storage: remembers the translation tab’s ID until Chrome closes.
The extension does not ask for access to all websites, your browsing history or your tabs list.
Selling and sharing data
The extension does not sell, rent or share any data. Apart from sending your selected text to Google Translate when you ask it to, no data leaves your device because of this extension.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other servers. Like any web server, the server hosting it may keep standard access logs.
Changes to this policy
If the way the extension handles information changes, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change.
